How your AI interview is scored, and who decides

Being judged by AI can feel unfair before you know how it works. This guide explains what your score is made from, what it ignores, and what the company sees.

It also explains who makes the hiring decision. That is always people at the company.

Quick answers

What does the AI score?
What you said, from a written transcript of your answers.
Does it score my face or accent?
No. Neither is used for your score.
Can my score reject me automatically?
No. People at the company decide.
Does a tab-switch warning lower my score?
No. It is shown to the company separately and doesn't cut your time.
Can paying change my score?
A report or video polish can't. A retaken answer is scored again, as a new answer.
Who sees my recording?
The company that invited you. If you turn on Get Discovered, other matching companies can see 1 of your answers.

How is my score calculated?

Your score comes from what you said, not from how you look.

  1. 1Your spoken answers are turned into a written transcript.
  2. 2An AI model rates the transcript against the requirements the company set for the role.
  3. 3The company gets an overall score out of 10, with a rating and the reasons for each requirement.

The company decides what matters. For each interview it lists its requirements, for example "3 years in B2B sales", and marks each one "Must have", "Very important", "Important" or "Good to have".

The AI rates you against each requirement and explains why. Must-haves count the most in the overall score. Only your interview answers are scored, not your CV.

What makes an answer score well?

An answer that covers the requirement and stays on the question starts at the middle of the scale. Two things move it up. Concrete details of what you did, and a clear result.

  • A general claim, such as "I am a strong team player", scores low.
  • A real example with what you personally did and what happened scores higher. Numbers help when they are true.
  • Speaking smoothly does not earn points on its own. The AI is told that fluency is not evidence.
  • If you skip a question with no reason, that requirement scores 0. If you can't share something, for example because it is confidential, say so.

So the best preparation is the job description, and 2 or 3 real examples of your work that match it.

Does the AI judge my face, voice or accent?

No. Your face, expressions, eye contact, background, tone of voice and accent are not scored. We removed emotion and eye-gaze analysis in July 2026.

When it rates your answers, the AI is told to forgive small grammar slips and mistakes in the transcript. You don't need perfect English. You need a clear answer to the question.

The company can also watch your video. A score made from the transcript doesn't mean nobody sees you, so treat it like any interview.

What does the company see?

  • Your overall score, and how it compares with other candidates for the same role.
  • Your strengths and gaps, with the reasons.
  • A rating for each requirement, and a score for each answer.
  • Your video and the transcript of every answer.
  • A separate chart of your communication, such as grammar, vocabulary and clarity, judged from the transcript. It is not part of your overall score.

A sample Flowmingo AI interview report with an overall score of 9.0 and ratings per requirement
A sample report as the company sees it. The overall score, where you stand, and a rating with reasons for each requirement.

So the company can check the AI's reasons against what you actually said, before deciding anything.

Can the AI reject me or move me forward on its own?

No. Nothing on Flowmingo rejects you or moves you forward because of your AI interview score. People at the company decide what happens next.

Companies can set separate automatic rules, but those can only invite you or move you forward, based on screening answers or a CV score. They don't use your interview score.

Flowmingo doesn't send hiring decisions. The email you get after submitting only confirms your interview was shared. The company contacts you directly if it moves forward.

What if my interview is flagged?

During an AI interview, the company can see if you left the tab, opened a second window, tried a screenshot shortcut or connected a second screen. It can also see if the recording shows another face, or no face.

These signals are labelled "For reference only; does not factor into candidate's assessment". They don't change your score, and in an AI interview they don't take any time off your clock.

Integrity signals in the sample report. They sit apart from the score.

If you leave the interview window, you'll see a warning that it was recorded and will be shared with the company. The rules in the "Integrity Check" still apply. Switching tabs, using other apps or sites, leaving the camera for a long time and submitting AI-generated answers are not allowed.

Skill Tests are stricter. There, breaking a rule takes time off your clock. Our help article explains how.

Can paying change my score?

It depends on what you buy. Seeing a report is different from replacing an answer.

Your detailed report

Effect on your scoreNone. You see the score, it doesn't change.

Video polish

Effect on your scoreNone. The score comes from your original transcript.

Retaking an answer

Effect on your scoreThe new answer replaces the old one, and it is scored like any other.

The company is not shown whether you bought anything. Submitting is free. Press "Submit Interview", then "No thanks. Just submit".

Can I see my own score and report?

Not by default. You see them if you buy your report, or if the company chooses to share it. The report costs US$2.90 to US$7.90 depending on your country, and buying it doesn't change your score.

If your account says "Companies don't always share your evaluation", it means the company may not make it available to you.

Who can see my recording?

The company that invited you can watch your interview recording.

If you turn on Get Discovered, our free feature that lets other companies find you, matching companies can see your profile and 1 of your recorded answers with its question. They don't see which company interviewed you. You can turn Get Discovered off at any time.

The data box at sign-up is separate. It offers a free CV Evaluation in exchange for de-identified data, starts unticked, and isn't needed for your interview.

Questions or requests about your personal data go to compliance@flowmingo.ai. If you want a person to review a decision made with AI, ask there too.
