You hire for 20 sites, and 3 peers told you to look at Olivia. Your Paradox recruiting search then turns up a $1.1 billion deal, a "123456" password and no price.
The product now sells as Workday Paradox, and the facts a buyer needs sit in contracts and filings, not on the website. Sign the wrong order form, and you can owe a full year of fees after you stop using it.
So we read 5 public primary sources: Paradox's terms, Workday's annual report, the federal record, the status page and the McHire write-up. We sell a competing product, so every number traces to a listed source.
The fix takes 3 moves. Price it from the public record, read the contract before the demo, then match Olivia to your real bottleneck.
Key takeaways
- How much does Paradox cost? It is quote only. Review listings start at about $1,000 a month, and the only public order is $22,500 for 1 year, from 2021.
- Did Workday buy Paradox? Yes, for $1,063 million, announced as closed on 1 October 2025, and it now sells as Workday Paradox.
- Can we cancel a Paradox contract early? Yes, but you get no refund and pay to the end of the term. Renewals run 1 year at a time, at up to 5% more.
- Does Paradox score candidates in an AI interview? No. On the 3 product pages we read, Olivia screens by chat and books the interview for your managers to run.
- Was Paradox breached? In June 2025 researchers said a "123456" login let them reach records on an estimated 64 million McHire applicants. Paradox says most records held no candidate details and 5 candidates' details were viewed.
1. Before we book a demo, what does Paradox recruiting software do for frontline hiring?
Paradox recruiting software runs the back-and-forth with applicants by text. Its assistant, Olivia, takes each one from first question to booked interview and offer.
Paradox has built for frontline, high-volume hiring since 2016, from Scottsdale, Arizona: restaurants, retail, healthcare, hotels and logistics.
That design matters because the slow part of hourly hiring is rarely the decision. It is calling 60 applicants back between shifts, which Olivia does for you.
An applicant scans a QR code in a store, texts a keyword or clicks apply on Indeed. Olivia then opens a chat by text, WhatsApp, Messenger or web chat, with no account or password.
Paradox says a text application takes under 3 minutes. Olivia asks your knockout questions, offers slots from the manager's calendar and handles reschedules. Later it texts the offer and the I-9 forms.

Olivia's applicant flow: QR code, keyword or Indeed apply with no account, a chat under 3 minutes, then knockout questions. Olivia books the interview from the manager's calendar and texts the offer and I-9 forms.
Paradox names Chipotle, 7-Eleven, General Motors, Compass Group and Wendy's on its home page. McHire, which Carroll and Curry say 90% of McDonald's franchisees use, runs on Olivia too.
On that page, Compass Group says it hires 120,000 workers a year with a recruiting team of 20. 6,000 hires per recruiter only works when software handles the logistics.
The home page says Olivia can detect 100+ candidate languages, while its product and Workday pages say 30+ supported languages.
Conversion claims run from over 70% in Workday's deal release to up to 80% on Paradox's own page, so ask which applies to your channels.
2. Workday bought Paradox: what changes for us, especially if we don't run Workday?
Workday agreed to buy Paradox on 21 August 2025 and announced on 1 October 2025 that the deal had closed. It now sells the product as Workday Paradox to existing and new customers, through Workday or Paradox.
Workday's 10-K for the year to 31 January 2026 gives the price: $1,063 million. That is about $1,043 million in cash (the filing rounds it to $1.0 billion) plus a $20 million stake Workday already held.
Paradox and Sana, Workday's other purchase that year, together brought in under 1% of its revenue.
Goodwill, the value of the team and the expected fit with Workday's products, makes up $780 million of it.
Developed technology gets $133 million over 5 years and customer relationships $116 million over 9 years. Cash, other assets, backlog and the trade name make up the rest, less $94 million of liabilities.

What Workday paid for: goodwill $780 million, developed technology $133 million, customer relationships $116 million and cash $75 million. Other assets were $49 million, backlog $2 million and the Paradox trade name $2 million, with a 1-year life.
The trade name line tells the story: $2 million, with a 1-year useful life. That is an accounting estimate, but it matches the rebrand.
For a buyer, 3 things change. First, you sign with Paradox, LLC, and its terms define the product documentation as Workday's administrator guide.
Second, its August 2026 sub-processor list names 44 entities, 25 of them Workday affiliates, so applicant data can move inside Workday's group. Ask which ones will process yours, and use the 30 days' notice the DPA gives before a new one is added.
Third, the roadmap now belongs to Workday, though Paradox still lists a SAP SuccessFactors integration.
This means a team on another ATS should write its integration into the order form for the full term. Paradox's terms say the order form wins over them, and Paradox can change its standard terms for new orders.
3. How much will Paradox recruiting cost our 20-location business in year 1?
Paradox publishes no price, so budget a range built from outside estimates, not a quote. By our arithmetic, year 1 runs from about $27,000 to about $170,000.
The low end is the $12,000 a year review floor plus the lowest setup fee Truffle reports, in a $15,000 to $35,000 range. The high end is Truffle's top mid-market estimate, $95,000, plus the top of Noon and Prepzo's $25,000 to $75,000 setup range.
On 25 October 2026, paradox.ai/pricing led to a demo form, so your Paradox recruiting price is whatever the order form lists.
Every Paradox AI pricing figure in circulation comes from outside Paradox. Hirevire cites a Capterra listing that starts at $1,000 a month, and Truffle cites SelectHub and GetApp listings at about the same figure.
Noon and Prepzo estimate mid-market deals at $30,000 to $80,000 a year, and Truffle goes up to $95,000. Noon puts large multi-location programs at $150,000 to $500,000 or more a year, and Prepzo says enterprise deals often exceed $150,000.
On 7 October 2026 Hirevire found no contract or filing behind such ranges. We found 1 in the federal record.
USAspending.gov lists a single federal contract with Paradox. In January 2021 the VA's Bay Pines medical center in Florida bought a "virtual job fair hosting service" for $22,500.
It ran from 21 January 2021 to 20 January 2022, about $1,875 a month, with 1 offer received and no competition.

Every public yearly figure for Paradox: review listings $12,000 and the 2021 VA order $22,500. Estimates run $30,000 to $80,000 or $95,000 mid-market, and $150,000 to $500,000+ for large programs.
This foundational 2021 order is not a current quote. It bought 1 module, events, at 1 medical center during the pandemic, so a full rollout costs more.
No public source prices Paradox per location, and the setup fees are estimates too. Ask the rep to price your 20 sites line by line, because only then can you test the quote against both ends.
4. Which Paradox contract terms should we negotiate before we sign the order form?
Negotiate renewal, cancellation and data export first. Paradox's standard terms renew yearly on 30 days' notice, allow a capped rise at each renewal and refund nothing on exit.
They come from Paradox's Terms of Service, updated 12 January 2026, and your order form can override them.
4.1 Renewal and the yearly cap
After the first term, the subscription renews 1 year at a time. To stop it, email renewal@paradox.ai at least 30 days before the term ends.
At each renewal, Paradox may move fees to its list prices, capped at 5% a year. HireVue's MSA v2.2 adds 10% a year, renews for the longer of the first term or 1 year and needs 60 days' notice.
Say you sign a 3-year first term at $50,000 a year, a round number and not a quote, then renew 3 times. At Paradox's cap, years 4 to 6 cost $52,500, $55,125 and $57,881.
Against 3 flat years at $150,000, the cap adds $15,506. HireVue's rate adds $32,050 over the same 3 years.

Renewal cost of a $50,000 deal: at Paradox's 5% cap, years 4 to 6 cost $52,500, $55,125 and $57,881, adding $15,506. At HireVue's 10% a year they cost $55,000, $60,500 and $66,550, adding $32,050.
4.2 Cancelling early
You may end the subscription at any time, but Paradox refunds nothing and you owe every fee through the end of the term.
Sign a 3-year deal, close half your sites in year 2, and you still owe year 3 in full. Ask for a clause that lowers fees when you close locations, because the standard terms have none.
Paradox bills yearly in advance and takes disputes only within 10 days, so check every invoice the day it arrives.
4.3 Your data, during the contract and after it
Paradox may de-identify your data and use it to improve its products, including training its natural language processing. Paradox owns that "Improvement Data", and keeps it after you leave.
The clause opens with "notwithstanding anything to the contrary", so a general data clause may not override it. Ask legal to limit it by name in the order form.
When the order ends, Paradox offers your data as a .csv file for 30 days, then deletes it. Say your term ends on 31 March: you have until 30 April, and on 1 May the data is gone.
So book the export before you give notice, and ask whether chat transcripts and videos come in the file.
4.4 Liability and breach costs
The terms cap each side's liability at 12 months of fees, or 24 months for a security or privacy breach. On the deal above, the general cap is 1 year's fee and the breach cap $100,000.
Paradox also commits to pay for forensics, breach notices, 1 year of credit monitoring and a call center after a breach it causes. That clause protects your applicants, so keep it.
One duty stays with you. The terms make you responsible for the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, the US law on texting people. So ask how each QR code and keyword flow records the applicant's consent.
5. Can Paradox replace our ATS, or does it sit on top of Workday?
It can do both. Paradox sells a Conversational ATS that can be your system of record, and many enterprise customers run it on top of Workday instead.
Workday's 10-K lists the Paradox Conversational Applicant Tracking System beside HiredScore AI for Recruiting and the Candidate Experience Agent. Paradox's site sells both: "the ATS that automates, not frustrates" and better hiring "without replacing your system of record".
Paradox says its scheduling integration is Workday Certified, so a booked interview updates the candidate's status in Workday Recruiting.
Recruiters can also text candidates from a browser extension without leaving Workday. Dell, Johnson Controls and Schnucks run it this way, Paradox and Workday say.
As a full Paradox recruiting system, it fits operators with many sites and no recruiter at each one. Paradox says Olivia supports more than 50,000 franchise locations and owner-operators.
A FedEx HR services manager on SelectSoftware Reviews used it as the ATS almost daily, for posting, scheduling, background checks, offers and hires.
On Workday, SAP or another enterprise ATS, buy the overlay and keep your records where they are. A 30-store franchise group with no ATS is different, because there the Conversational ATS is the whole product.
6. Does Paradox score candidates in an AI interview, or only book the interview?
On the pages we read, Paradox books interviews rather than scoring them. Olivia screens with chat questions, and Paradox can collect recorded video answers for your team to watch.
We read Paradox's screening, video and scheduling pages. Screening checks each applicant against your requirements, and qualified people go straight to a booked interview. Paradox says gender, race and ethnicity never factor in.
With video, you add short prompts to the chat and view the responses on demand. Workday's solution brief lists "recorded interviews" among scheduling formats, and says the AI never makes autonomous hiring decisions.
Workday places AI talent matching in a different product, HiredScore. Paradox also owns Traitify, a short image-based personality test it bought in 2021.
Say you get 400 applicants for summer roles and 60% pass the knockout questions (illustrative numbers). Olivia books all 240 interviews without a recruiter touching a calendar.
Your managers still run those 240 interviews, and at 15 minutes each that is 60 hours. If booking is your pain, Paradox solves it. If judging the answers is the pain, you need a tool that scores them.
Our guide to automated interview tools sorts chatbots, schedulers and AI interviews by what each one hands back.
How Flowmingo helps
Flowmingo is a free AI hiring platform, and its AI interview covers the judging step that booking leaves open. Each applicant answers your questions in their own time, in 60+ languages. Your team gets a recording, a transcript and a scored evaluation for each one, so managers review the strongest answers instead of running 240 calls.
7. After the McHire breach, is Paradox safe enough to hold our applicant data?
It can be, if your contract adds the checks McHire lacked. Paradox's security page lists 2 security certifications, yet it had a serious lapse.
In June 2025, Ian Carroll and Sam Curry typed 123456 as username and password on a McHire staff login. It made them admin of a test restaurant.
An internal API then returned any applicant by ID, with names, contact details, home addresses and login tokens. From record numbering, they estimated more than 64 million applicants were reachable.
Paradox's own account agrees on the cause: a test account unused since 2019. It says the researchers viewed 5 candidates' details and downloaded 7 chat records, all at 1 client.
Paradox adds that the system held chat records, not job applications, and that most held no candidate personal details. So 64 million is the researchers' estimate of what was reachable, and 5 is what Paradox says was opened.
The fix was fast: the login stopped working 1 hour 45 minutes after disclosure on 30 June 2025. Paradox confirmed both issues resolved the next day.
In July 2025, KrebsOnSecurity reported that malware on a Paradox developer's device had exposed hundreds of weak, recycled passwords. Krebs found the developer had reused 1 short password on Paradox accounts set up for client companies, including Aramark, Lockheed Martin, Lowe's and Pepsi.
Paradox told Krebs that few still worked and that it has required single sign-on with multi-factor authentication for its partners since 2020. Its July 2025 post promised a bug bounty program, but we found no public page for one.
Ask for its latest independent security audit report before you sign, because the terms oblige Paradox to provide it on written request.
7.1 How often has Paradox gone down since the Workday deal?
Paradox's public status page shows 49 incidents since 2017, and the pace has picked up. It posted 14 since the Workday deal closed on 1 October 2025, against 3 in the 12 months before. By calendar year it posted 9 in 2024, 5 in 2025 and 12 in 2026, which hides that quiet stretch.

Status incidents: 3 from 1 Oct 2024 to 30 Sep 2025, against 14 from the deal to 25 Oct 2026. By calendar year from 2020: 2, 2, 6, 10, 9, 5, then 12 to 25 October.
8 of the 14 since the deal describe slowness, 7 of them in the Candidate Experience Manager, the app recruiters work in. The worst, on 4 June 2026, took the app and API down for about 18 minutes.
More posts can mean more openness, not only more failures. Still, for a team that hires through the night, get the uptime commitment and service credits in writing.
8. What do Paradox recruiting reviews say about scheduling, reporting and support?
Users praise Olivia's scheduling, the text-first candidate flow and the support team. The repeated complaints are weak reporting, candidate questions the bot cannot answer and a price that is high for small teams.
SelectSoftware Reviews publishes 3 named user reviews of Paradox recruiting, from a Dollar General HR representative, an HR freelancer and a FedEx HR services manager. All 3 praise how it engages candidates during mass hiring, and 2 single out the scheduling.
2 of the 3 say the AI struggles with complex or unusual candidate questions, and 2 point to reporting or filtering gaps. The Dollar General reviewer adds that candidates sometimes felt less committed and missed interviews.
The editors praise the implementation team, which often fixes issues the same day, but find the analytics weak. G2 blocked our reader, so we cite Hirevire's count: 94 G2 reviews averaging 4.5 out of 5.
Reddit is a different crowd: Google's Reddit suggestions for Paradox come from candidates, such as "is paradox ai legit". Paradox even keeps a fraud page about fake Paradox recruiters.
Your applicants meet your assistant before they meet you. Paradox lets you set its voice, tone and photo: on the Conversational ATS page, Flynn Group's candidates hear from "Frankie". Put your brand on the first text, and say a real manager will follow.
One franchise on Paradox's franchise hiring page switched off its assistant, "Mia", because applications flooded in. So size manager interview slots before you switch it on, because Olivia can fill a calendar faster than a store can staff interviews.
Then test the weak spots on the demo. Ask the rep to filter last month's applicants by experience and skills, the report the FedEx reviewer could not run. Then ask what Olivia does with a question it cannot answer.
9. Which Paradox recruiting alternatives publish prices for a team that hires less?
For a full frontline suite, Fountain is 1 option, and it is also quote-only. For screening without a yearly order form, 4 tools we read publish prices, from $39 to $499 a month.
None is a like-for-like copy, because Paradox recruiting is chat logistics across thousands of sites, while most priced tools lead with a self-paced interview.
The table reads each vendor's own pricing page.
| Tool | Main job | Published price, 25 October 2026 | Limit that bites first | Trial |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hirevire | One-way video interviews, scored against your rubric | From $39 a month, billed yearly | 1 job and 300 interviews a year on the entry plan | 7 days |
| Truffle | CV screening, one-way interviews and assessments | From $49 a month, billed monthly only | Starter: 200 credits a month, about 40 finished interviews, no overage | 7 days, 30 credits |
| Spark Hire | Live and one-way video interviews | From $249 a month billed yearly ($299 month to month) | Month-to-month plan: 5 jobs and 5 users | None listed; monthly plan bought online |
| Ribbon | AI voice and video interviews, SMS and WhatsApp outreach | From $499 a month, billed yearly | 2 seats, 2 roles, 100 interviews a month | 7 days |
| Fountain | Frontline hiring, onboarding and retention | Quote only | Price after a demo | Not listed |
3 of the 4 priced tools offer a 7-day trial, while Paradox's standard terms bill each year in advance.
Say you need 1,200 first-round interviews a year. Ribbon's Growth plan covers them for $5,988 a year.
That holds only if they spread evenly. Bunch them into a 3-month summer peak at 400 a month, and 900 pay Ribbon's $4 overage, which adds $3,600 for $9,588 a year.
Our AI interview cost per candidate guide explains that peak effect, and prices the same plans at 100, 1,000 and 10,000 interviews a year.
Hirevire's Professional plan covers 1,200 at $99 a month, or $1,188 a year. Paradox's reported floor is 10 times Hirevire's plan before setup, and it buys scheduling, not scored interviews.
10. Is Paradox worth it at our hiring volume, or do we need something lighter?
Paradox is worth it if you hire hundreds of hourly workers a month across many sites, especially on Workday. If you hire a few dozen people a year, the 5-figure floor buys automation you will barely use, because Paradox prices for scale.
Start with what Paradox does well. Chipotle's chief human resources officer, Ilene Eskenazi, says in Workday's August 2025 release that time-to-hire fell 75%, from 12 days to 4.
By August 2025 Paradox had powered more than 189 million AI-assisted candidate conversations. A customer on Paradox's Workday page saved about $2 million on admin in under a year.
The case against is concrete: no published price, no refund if you cancel early, and interviews your managers still judge. The McHire lapse deserves a security review, and the rising status count an uptime clause.
A 300-store chain whose time-to-hire looks like Chipotle's 12 days before Paradox should run a Paradox pilot. An agency recruiter or a 200-person company with 15 open roles usually needs something lighter.
If you already run Paradox, set a reminder 60 days before your renewal date, so the 30-day notice is never a rush. Our high volume recruiting guide covers the rest of the funnel around it.
How Flowmingo helps
Flowmingo has no yearly order form to sign: Free costs $0 with no term, and paid plans cancel anytime. See every price on its pricing page. Every plan includes unlimited AI interviews, CV evaluation, tests and a full applicant tracking system for unlimited team members. The trade-off is branding: free sessions show Flowmingo's brand next to yours, and candidates may see optional offers. Sponsor an AI interview for $0.49 on the Free plan to remove both. Scale, at $4,069.80 a year, covers unlimited sponsored sessions under fair use. Before you sign a yearly order form for Paradox recruiting, test your next open role on Flowmingo.
