The short answer
CodeSignal combines AI interviews with a broader skills-assessment platform. Its agents cover engineering and several business functions, and the paid package determines which agents, assessments and integrations you receive. It is no longer accurate to describe CodeSignal as only a coding test[1,2].
Flowmingo includes unlimited AI interviews on Free. Recruiters configure the role, invite applicants, and review recorded answers with criterion scores and written reasons. Technical Tests with executable coding questions are also available, so coding capability alone is not a reason to rule Flowmingo out.
The decision is about the assessment workflow and commercial unit. CodeSignal bundles interview and assessment use into credits, with different role coverage by plan. Flowmingo provides an unlimited interview baseline and a built-in tracker. Compare the actual coding exercise, interview evidence and reviewer handoff your team needs[2].
3 more differences worth knowing
Credits across the hiring process
CodeSignal Hire plans meter assessment and interview starts. An invitation is not the same billing event as a started session. Map the stages a candidate completes before estimating how far the allowance will go[2,3].
See the detailCheck which agent is included
Build, Grow and Pro have different role and integration coverage. Buying the entry plan does not establish access to every CodeSignal interviewer. Flowmingo lets you configure questions and criteria for your own role[2].

Both products offer technical assessments. The useful comparison is whether your chosen exercise, execution environment and interview evidence support the decision you need to make. Product category labels will not answer that question.

Pricing: what each one costs you
CodeSignal meters hiring credits. Flowmingo keeps AI interviews unlimited.
CodeSignal publishes separate Learn and Hire pricing. This comparison uses Hire: Build is US$99/month and Grow US$599/month on monthly billing. The lower US$79 and US$479 figures are monthly equivalents under annual billing. Pro requires a quote[2].
| What | CodeSignal | |
|---|---|---|
| Build, monthly | US$99/month; 5 credits per month[2] | Free US$0; Starter US$49/month; Growth US$99/month; AI interviews stay unlimited |
| Grow, monthly | US$599/month; 35 credits per month[2] | Ongoing Free plan with unlimited AI interviews, hiring projects and team members |
| Build, annual | US$79/month equivalent; 60 annual credits[2] | Free has no annual purchase requirement |
| Grow, annual | US$479/month equivalent; 420 annual credits[2] | Paid plans add features without metering AI interviews |
| Enterprise package | Pro: custom price and expanded features[2] | Confirm requirements beyond the published plans |
| Usage event | Credits apply when a candidate starts an assessment or interview[2,3] | Inviting or completing an AI interview does not consume an interview quota |
| Product boundaries | Learn subscriptions are separate from employer Hire plans[2] | Compare the company hiring plans on /pricing |
A credit pool should be modeled against your real sequence of stages. A company that sends one assessment and then an interview to the same person should not treat its allowance as a simple count of distinct applicants. Confirm the credit treatment of retries, abandoned sessions and each assessment type in your account before budgeting a full campaign[2,3].
The Build monthly allowance and annual allowance also have different practical implications. A seasonal hiring team may care more about when credits can be used than the headline monthly equivalent. Ask how unused credits, renewal and a mid-cycle upgrade work; do not assume that an annual purchase behaves like twelve independently cancellable monthly subscriptions.
Flowmingo separates interview volume from paid presentation and evidence features. Its Free plan supports ongoing screening and unlimited reviewers. Paid plans add capabilities such as downloads, branded sharing, longer assessments and longer video retention. This means a growing applicant pool does not force you to purchase a larger AI interview allowance, although your recording and reporting requirements can still justify an upgrade.
Flowmingo's plans: Free is $0 with unlimited AI interviews. Starter ($49 a month) and Growth ($99 a month) add your brand on what you share, downloads, longer assessments and longer-kept interview videos. See pricing.
How these numbers were worked out
- Prices reflect the public Hire pricing page reviewed on 4 October 2026[2].
- Annual equivalents are identified explicitly; no Learn price is used as employer pricing.
- No percentage saving is calculated across unlike credit bundles.
The AI interview: role-specific agents and assessment depth
CodeSignal begins with the role and competencies and can tailor its agents to different business functions. Its public AI Interviewer material describes follow-up questions and structured evaluation. Flowmingo also starts from a job description and lets the recruiter edit the questions and criteria before candidates receive the link[1].

| What | CodeSignal | |
|---|---|---|
| Conversation | Conversational AI agents with adaptive questions[1] | Spoken AI questions and follow-ups; applicants record video answers in their own time |
| Role setup | Job description and competencies inform the interview[1] | Generate 1-30 questions from the job description, then edit questions and evaluation criteria |
| Role access | Build covers product, design and engineering; Grow adds GTM agents[2] | Configure questions and criteria around your job |
| Technical work | Coding and agentic assessments within the Hire offering[2] | Technical Tests with executable coding questions and sandbox verification, alongside AI interviews |
| Business roles | Sales, marketing and other role agents are advertised[1] | Role-specific behavioral, situational and experience questions |
| Duration | Typically around 15 minutes; configurable role experience[1] | Configure the interview duration, up to 60 minutes depending on your plan |
| Preparation | Vendor describes calibration around your competencies[1] | Review generated questions, criteria and their importance before inviting |
Start with the evidence your role requires. For an engineer, that might mean runnable code, a discussion of trade-offs, and an explanation of a debugging decision. For a sales role, it might mean discovery, objection handling and a concrete account example. Ask the vendor to demonstrate those tasks in the exact agent included in your proposed plan, rather than generalizing from a polished demo for another function.
An assessment score and an interview score answer related but different questions. A candidate can complete an exercise successfully yet struggle to explain why it works, or describe a sound approach while making an implementation mistake. Use both kinds of evidence deliberately. Flowmingo’s Technical Tests and AI interviews can serve those separate purposes; CodeSignal’s bundled platform should be evaluated for how clearly it brings the evidence together.
What your applicants experience
CodeSignal markets browser and phone-based AI screening options. The candidate experience depends on the selected interviewer and assessment. A mobile conversation and a coding exercise should therefore be tested as different experiences, even when they are purchased from the same provider[1,6].
Pilot the complete journey, including the second stage. A successful voice screen does not establish that a candidate can finish a technical exercise on the same device. State the expected equipment and time in the invitation, and provide an accommodation route. Flowmingo’s WhatsApp option delivers a browser interview link for eligible paid organizations with messaging credits; it should not be described as a telephone interview or a conversation conducted inside WhatsApp.
| What | CodeSignal | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry channel | Phone and browser experiences are marketed[1,6] | Phone or laptop browser, with camera and microphone checks for the AI video interview |
| Human appointment | AI screening can be completed without a live recruiter[1] | Applicants complete the AI interview in their own time |
| Video avatar | AI video-avatar experience is a separate advertised capability[7] | Spoken AI prompts with the applicant recording video answers |
| Language fit | Confirm languages for the particular agent and assessment[1] | 60+ spoken interview languages; applicants choose from those you allow |
| Invitation channels | Verify the selected phone/browser invitation flow[6] | Email invitations and reminders; WhatsApp invitations for enabled, eligible paid organizations, with messaging credits |
| Technical requirements | Check the environment required by the chosen coding assessment[2] | Confirm device requirements for the Technical Test separately |
| Time expectation | Tell candidates which interview and assessment stages are required[1,2] | Configure the interview duration, up to 60 minutes depending on your plan |

What comes back after each interview
CodeSignal’s AI Interviewer publishes skill evaluations, transcripts and scoring explanations. Its wider assessment product adds evidence from technical work. Flowmingo’s interview report places recorded answers alongside criterion scores and written reasons, with the recruiter responsible for interpreting the result[1,2].
| What | CodeSignal | |
|---|---|---|
| Competency score | Skills evaluated against configured criteria[1] | Criterion scores with written reasons; overall score reflects the importance you assign |
| Rationale | Explanations accompany AI interview evaluation[1] | Written reasons for criterion scores |
| Transcript | Interview transcript available for review[1] | Transcript alongside the recorded interview |
| Technical evidence | Assessment results complement conversational evaluation[2] | Technical Test evidence complements AI interview reports |
| Calibration | Vendor offers role calibration and I/O expertise[1] | Recruiter reviews criteria and the importance assigned to each |
| Exports | Confirm report/export access in your plan and connector[2,4] | Report links on Free; downloads and branded sharing on paid plans; CSV export on Growth |
| Decision | Review scores against your selection process[1] | Recruiters review the evidence and decide who moves forward |

Overall scoreCompare the explanation behind a borderline result. Choose a candidate whose evidence is mixed and see whether reviewers can identify the same strengths and gaps. A score alone may hide a weak rubric, incomplete answer or mismatch between the exercise and day-to-day work. Keep the original response available during calibration so that a model-generated summary does not become the only record the hiring manager reads.
Integrations and support
| What | CodeSignal | |
|---|---|---|
| ATS access | Basic integrations on Grow; enterprise connections on Pro[2] | API, webhooks and MCP for custom integrations on every plan |
| Recruiter pipeline | Assessment platform connects to the hiring workflow[4] | Built-in applicant tracking, hiring stages, notes and team review |
| Team permissions | Advanced RBAC advertised on Pro[2] | Unlimited team members; Owner, Admin and Member roles |
| Enterprise identity | SSO, SCIM, JIT provisioning and audit logs listed on Pro[2] | Confirm identity and audit requirements for your workspace |
| Question library | 2,000+ questions advertised in Hire plans[2] | Job-based AI generation plus recruiter editing |
| Support | Dedicated customer success and review support listed on Pro[2] | Standard Free, priority Starter, account manager Growth |
Evaluate the handoff inside your own ATS. A connector logo does not show whether the recruiter receives a completion flag, a score, the complete report or a playable answer. Ask to run a test applicant through your selected CodeSignal integration and confirm its plan gate. Flowmingo offers API, webhooks and MCP for custom connections on every plan; implementation and field mapping remain part of that integration decision.

Scoring, oversight and candidate data
Separate assessment quality from identity and fraud checks
CodeSignal advertises proctoring, identity checks and fraud controls, with advanced capabilities varying by package. These controls address test integrity; they do not establish that every assessment is appropriate for every hiring decision[2,5].
An integrity flag should trigger review, not become an unexplained rejection. Establish who investigates a suspicious session, what evidence they can see and how a candidate can clarify an interruption or assistive technology use. For selection-quality claims, ask for the specific study, job family and population covered. Neither a vendor’s fraud feature list nor a general AI claim replaces that role-level evaluation.
| What | CodeSignal | |
|---|---|---|
| Integrity controls | AI proctoring and identity verification in Hire plans[2,5] | Review the candidate evidence and any available assessment controls |
| Advanced detection | Additional fraud features listed on Pro[2] | Confirm the controls required for your role |
| Role validity | I/O calibration and study support advertised[1,2] | Review whether questions and criteria match actual job requirements |
| Data terms | Custom DPA and retention options listed on Pro[2] | Published Privacy Policy and Data Processing Agreement; confirm your retention and deletion requirements |
| Recording access | Confirm retention and permission terms for each session type[2] | Free retains the latest 300 interview videos for 30 days; scores and transcripts remain available |
| Oversight | Assess scores and flags with a human review procedure[5] | Recruiters review the evidence and decide who moves forward |
Which should you choose?
| If you are | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You want a bundled skills-assessment program with role-specific agents | CodeSignal | CodeSignal packages coding, agentic assessments and AI interviewers with role coverage by tier[2]. |

| You need executable coding tests | Either | Both offer technical assessments; compare the actual exercise and execution environment. |
| Your enterprise program needs I/O calibration support | CodeSignal | CodeSignal advertises that service; establish its scope in the proposed package[1,2]. |
| You need an included tracker and unlimited reviewers | Flowmingo | Hiring stages and team review are included on Free. |
| You require a particular ATS or identity workflow | Either | Test the connector and permissions in the specific paid package before rollout. |
Moving from CodeSignal: test one role first
Move one role through the proposed process before replacing an established assessment. Keep the competency definitions stable so that differences in scores can be traced to the evidence or rubric.
- Map each hiring stageList the coding exercise, AI interview and human interview separately. Record which CodeSignal actions consume credits and which Flowmingo features you would use.
- Calibrate the roleUse a small set of strong, mixed and weak responses. Review the questions and scoring explanations before inviting a live cohort.
- Test candidate and recruiter accessComplete the browser or phone experience, then inspect the report in the recruiter workspace and ATS. Include a technical exercise if the role requires one.
- Compare a realistic billing periodUse the planned number of stage starts, required agents and integration tier. Keep annual commitments and recording retention separate from interview volume.

Questions buyers ask
Is CodeSignal only for coding tests?
No. Its current AI Interviewer covers engineering and business roles. Access to specific agents and assessment families varies by Hire plan[1,2].
Is the CodeSignal Learn price the employer price?
No. Learn and Hire are separate offerings. The employer comparison here uses Hire Build, Grow and Pro[2].
Does Flowmingo support coding assessments?
Yes. Technical Tests include executable coding questions and sandbox verification, alongside AI interviewing. Compare the actual task and review evidence rather than assuming technical testing is exclusive to one provider.
Does an invitation use a CodeSignal credit?
The published usage description associates credits with a candidate starting the relevant assessment or interview. Confirm treatment of retries and partially completed sessions in your plan[2,3].
Which option has an ongoing free AI interview allowance?
Flowmingo Free includes unlimited AI interviews and team members. The CodeSignal Hire pricing reviewed here lists paid credit plans; a free learner account is not equivalent to employer screening access[2].
