The short answer
Lever combines an ATS and CRM with AI assistance around the hiring process. Its Interview Companion prepares the interviewer, captures the conversation and helps collect feedback. The product page explicitly distinguishes transcription and summarization from candidate scoring or hiring recommendations[1,2].
Flowmingo starts with an interview the applicant can complete independently. Recruiters set the questions and requirements, then review the recorded evidence and weighted evaluation. Free includes unlimited AI interviews and team members. Flowmingo also has an Interview Companion for recruiter-led browser calls; confirm installation and availability for your team.
The decision is about the stage of interviewing you want to improve. Choose an asynchronous AI interview when the bottleneck is conducting every first conversation. Evaluate Lever’s Companion when the priority is the quality and documentation of scheduled conversations already happening in Lever. Neither use case is settled by the phrase “AI interview” alone.
2 more differences worth knowing
Interview assistance and autonomous interviewing do different work
Lever’s Companion supports the interviewer. Flowmingo’s AI interviewer asks the applicant questions directly. A note-taking license should not be counted as a completed first-screening interview[2].
See the detailAn interview summary is not a scored assessment
Lever’s current Companion page states no candidate scoring or hiring recommendations. Flowmingo supplies criterion ratings and written reasons that your team reviews before deciding[2].

Pricing: what each one costs you
Price the hiring platform and the interview work separately.
Lever publishes a custom-quote model. Its current core-platform description includes unlimited AI transcripts and summaries, so an older price for a separate note-taking add-on may no longer describe the offer. Request the exact Companion and coaching scope in writing[1].
| What | Lever | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry price | Custom quote; no public dollar amount[1] | Free $0; Starter US$49/month; Growth US$99/month. AI interviews stay unlimited |
| Published core allowance | Unlimited AI interview transcripts and summaries[1] | Unlimited AI-conducted interviews |
| Team pricing | Quote reflects team size and hiring needs[1] | Unlimited team members, with Owner, Admin and Member roles |
| Candidate screening add-on | AI Screening by VONQ is listed separately[1] | AI interviewing is included on Free |
| Human interview time | Keep scheduled interviewer time in the budget | AI interview runs without a recruiter attending |
| Files and branding | Specify required sharing and export scope in the quote | Downloads and branded report sharing on paid plans |
Use the unit that matches the work. Five hundred transcripts means five hundred conversations were documented; it does not tell you who conducted them or how much interviewer time they required. For an early screening stage, compare the total time spent inviting, conducting and reviewing. For a later panel stage, compare preparation and feedback effort instead.
An existing Lever customer should ask what is already included before buying another tool. A new customer should evaluate the broader ATS and CRM commitment, migration work and reporting needs. Keep those decisions separate from a small interview pilot, because a useful transcript feature does not by itself justify replacing an established recruiting system.
Flowmingo’s Free plan still has recording-retention limits. It keeps the latest 300 videos for 30 days, while results, scores and transcripts remain available. If the review process needs video months later, include the appropriate paid retention option in the comparison. Interview volume remains unlimited.
Flowmingo's plans: Free is $0 with unlimited AI interviews. Starter ($49 a month) and Growth ($99 a month) add your brand on what you share, downloads, longer assessments and longer-kept interview videos. See pricing.
How these numbers were worked out
- Pricing checked 4 October 2026.
- No Lever dollar estimate or per-interview rate is inferred from a custom quote.
- Unlimited transcripts and unlimited AI-conducted interviews describe different services.
- Flowmingo prices shown use monthly billing and exclude optional paid extras.
The interview: help your interviewer, or let the AI conduct the first conversation
Lever’s preparation workflow brings candidate and role context to the interviewer before a scheduled call. Flowmingo lets the recruiter prepare a structured interview and then invite applicants to complete it in their own time[3].

| What | Lever | |
|---|---|---|
| Preparation | Candidate brief and tailored questions using resume and job context[3] | 1-30 questions drafted from the job description; edit the questions and criteria before inviting |
| During the conversation | Live interviewer guidance and feedback collection[2] | The AI asks aloud and follows up; the applicant records video answers in their own time |
| Question ownership | Interviewer uses and adapts the suggested guide[3] | Recruiter reviews questions and requirements before inviting |
| Human interview support | Companion is part of the Lever interview workflow[2] | Interview Companion for recruiter-led browser calls; confirm team setup |
| Duration | Depends on the scheduled human interview | Set the whole interview up to 60 minutes, depending on your plan |
| Additional assessment | Evaluate screening modules separately from Companion[1] | CV Evaluation, tests and Technical Tests can support the interview |
A first screen and a final interview need different evidence. For a support role, the first stage may establish relevant experience, shift availability and judgment in a customer scenario. The later interview may explore a particular decision in depth. Automating the first conversation can free the team to spend more time on that second discussion.
For a team evaluating interviewer consistency, take one role and ask two interviewers to use the same guide. Look for differences in the evidence they elicit and the feedback they submit. Lever describes coaching around talk time, potentially biased language and inconsistent scoring; assess those features as interviewer-development tools, not proof that the selected candidate will perform better[4].
What your applicants experience
The candidate experience depends first on whether a person must attend at a booked time. Lever’s Companion supports a scheduled human conversation. Flowmingo’s asynchronous AI interview is available when the applicant is ready.
Make the invitation describe the actual experience. Applicants should know whether they will meet a person, speak to an AI interviewer, or take a coding assessment. A WhatsApp message is a delivery channel, not a different interview format. For Flowmingo, that invitation opens the browser interview and requires an enabled, eligible paid organization with messaging credits. Test the complete path on the devices your applicants use.
| What | Lever | |
|---|---|---|
| Start | Join the scheduled interview with the recruiter[5] | Open the interview invitation and complete the device check |
| Invitation delivery | Use the team’s configured scheduling and communications workflow | Email invitations and reminders; eligible paid WhatsApp invitations with credits |
| Meeting connection | Interview API accepts conference details, including meeting URLs[5] | Standard AI interview runs in the applicant’s browser |
| Language scope | Confirm transcription and summary languages for your account[6] | 60+ spoken interview languages; applicants choose from the languages you allow |
| Disclosure | Explain the selected capture and note-taking configuration | Explain AI interviewing and the evidence the team will review |

What comes back after each interview
Lever’s current product page is explicit about Companion’s role: it assists with transcription and summarization rather than generating candidate scores. That boundary is separate from other Lever screening products[2].
| What | Lever | |
|---|---|---|
| Interview evidence | Video clips and skills-based feedback[2] | Video recording and transcript, with the answer available alongside its evaluation |
| Summary and feedback | Automatic summaries and feedback in Lever[4] | Scores, written reasons, strengths, gaps, recommendation and cohort percentile band |
| Candidate scoring | Not provided by Interview Companion[2] | 0-10 per criterion with a written reason; overall score uses the importance you set |
| Comparison | Side-by-side skills review described[4] | Review candidate evidence against the role’s requirements |
| Operational reporting | Companion adoption and time-saved dashboard described[6] | Hiring stages and assessment results within the project |

Overall scoreKeep the original answer close to the conclusion. A useful summary can still omit the qualification that changes how an answer should be interpreted. Ask a reviewer to find the evidence for one positive and one concern. For Flowmingo, inspect the individual criterion ratings and importance settings; the overall is a weighted summary, not a probability of success. For Lever, distinguish an interviewer’s feedback from an AI-written summary before using either in a debrief.
Integrations and workflow
| What | Lever | |
|---|---|---|
| Recruiting record | Combined ATS and CRM[1] | Built-in hiring stages, applicant records, notes and team ratings on every plan |
| Interview workflow | Briefs and interview preparation within Lever[3] | AI interview linked to the hiring project and candidate |
| Developer connection | Public API for opportunities, interviews and feedback[5] | REST API, webhooks and MCP for custom integrations on every plan |
| Meeting context | Conference URL stored on the scheduled interview[5] | Browser-based AI interview; Companion setup for human calls |
| Team access | Confirm roles and contracted access | Unlimited team members, with Owner, Admin and Member roles |
Keep the system of record clear. A team can pilot an interview stage without moving its candidate database. Define where the invitation starts, where the report is reviewed and which system owns the hiring decision. A generic API does not establish a ready-made connector between Lever and Flowmingo; test the actual mapping and permissions before relying on an automated handoff.

Scoring, oversight and candidate data
Separate interview coaching from candidate assessment
Lever describes governance and monitoring for its AI products. Evaluate the specific module, data use and reviewer process rather than assuming that every product carrying the same brand makes the same decisions[6].
A coaching flag or interview score deserves a review procedure. Decide who checks a disputed interpretation and how the underlying evidence is retained. Do not convert an automated signal into a statement about personality, honesty or future performance without appropriate evidence.
| What | Lever | |
|---|---|---|
| AI role | Companion summarizes and transcribes without candidate scoring[2] | Recruiters review the evidence and decide who moves forward |
| Coaching signals | Interviewer talk time and potentially biased language described[4] | Review the actual interview evidence and configured criteria |
| Governance | Published AI governance and monitoring approach[6] | Published Data Processing Agreement and Privacy Policy; confirm retention and deletion requirements |
| Access and retention | Confirm recording, transcript and reviewer-access terms | Plan-based recording retention; confirm applicable data requirements |
Which should you choose?
| If you are | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You need independent first-round interviewing | Flowmingo | The AI conducts the conversation and returns scored evidence. |
| Your team already runs scheduled interviews in Lever | Lever | Evaluate Companion inside that established preparation and feedback workflow[3]. |
| You need unlimited AI interviews on an ongoing free plan | Flowmingo | Interview volume and team members are included on Free. |
| Interviewer coaching is the main purchase | Lever | Lever describes a coaching and training workflow for interviewers[2,4]. |
| You want a human-interview assistant | Either | Evaluate the specific workflow; confirm Flowmingo Companion installation and availability. |
| You already have a working ATS | Either | Pilot the interview stage and verify the handoff before considering migration. |
| You want evidence behind the decision | Either | Compare original answers, summaries and reviewer feedback with a common rubric. |
Moving from Lever: test one role first
Start with the interview stage that needs improvement, then measure its work separately from the rest of the recruiting system.
- Name the bottleneckChoose first-screen capacity, interviewer preparation, feedback collection or coaching. Do not combine them into one vague AI requirement.
- Use one role and rubricKeep the assessment criteria stable and decide what evidence the stage must produce.
- Compare review effortTime how long it takes to find evidence, submit feedback and reach a reasoned next step.
- Verify the handoffCheck candidate identity, report access and status updates before introducing an automated connection.

Questions buyers ask
Does Lever’s AI Interview Companion interview candidates by itself?
Its published scope supports a human interviewer with guides, live assistance, transcription and summaries. Evaluate other Lever screening products separately[2].
Does Lever Companion score candidates?
The current Employ product page explicitly says it does not provide candidate scoring or hiring recommendations. That statement is about Interview Companion, not every Lever product[2].
Does Flowmingo support human-led interviews?
Flowmingo has an Interview Companion for recruiter-led browser calls. Confirm installation and availability for your team; it is a separate workflow from the asynchronous AI interviewer.
Is Lever’s pricing public?
Lever requests a custom quote. Its pricing page describes the current core scope, but does not publish a dollar amount[1].
