The short answer
Puck combines phone screening with recruiting and talent-branding tools. Its AI Recruiter uses employer-defined questions and criteria, asks follow-ups and produces a scored shortlist. The broader platform offers an ATS, Talent CRM and content services; inclusion depends on the package[1,2,3,4].
Flowmingo provides an AI-led interview and shared hiring evidence without metering interview volume. Recruiters configure the role, review recorded answers and explained scores, and manage applicants in the included tracker. Email and eligible paid WhatsApp invitations distribute the interview link; the invitation channel is separate from where the conversation happens.
The main decision is phone screening versus browser interviewing, followed by the commercial model. Puck’s invitation via SMS does not make WhatsApp a missing Flowmingo capability. Likewise, an invitation delivered through WhatsApp does not make Flowmingo an AI telephone service. Pilot the actual interview your applicants will complete before deciding which workflow fits.
2 more differences worth knowing
The lowest Puck plan does not include AI interviews
The US$300/month Starter package covers recruiting tools. Standard at US$600/month introduces AI Recruiter, on the displayed annual billing basis[2].
See the detailInvitations and interviews are different channels
Puck invites by SMS or email and conducts a phone screen. Flowmingo supports email and eligible paid WhatsApp invitations for its browser interview[1].

Pricing: what each one costs you
Price the package that includes AI Recruiter, then account for additional interviews.
Puck’s displayed subscription prices use an annual billing basis. The pricing FAQ also mentions quarterly and biannual arrangements; the page does not establish that their rates equal the annual figures. Request the terms for the billing schedule you intend to use[2].
| What | Puck | |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | US$300/month equivalent; AI Recruiter not included[2] | Free $0; Starter US$49/month; Growth US$99/month. AI interviews stay unlimited |
| Standard | US$600/month equivalent; 200 AI interviews/month[2] | Unlimited AI interviews on Free |
| Pro | US$1,000/month equivalent; 500 AI interviews/month[2] | No interview-volume upgrade required |
| Additional usage | US$3 per interview over the Standard or Pro allowance[2] | US$0 per additional AI interview |
| Trial access | Free candidate-side AI Recruiter demo[2] | Ongoing Free employer plan |
| Content production | Branded content starts on Pro; broader services on Enterprise[2] | Evaluate software branding separately from production services |
The subscription and the interview meter answer different questions. The base package tells you what workflow you are buying. The allowance tells you how costs change when screening demand rises. A seasonal recruiting campaign can exceed its allowance even if the average number of interviews across the year looks modest. Forecast usage by month and confirm whether unused interviews carry forward; the reviewed page does not establish a rollover policy.
A comparison should also separate software from services. If a Puck proposal includes producing employer-brand content, assign that service its own requirement and budget. Flowmingo’s branding and career-page controls are relevant software capabilities, but they are not a promise to produce podcasts or run an external content campaign for you. Conversely, a paid content service does not make free interview capacity less useful.
Flowmingo's plans: Free is $0 with unlimited AI interviews. Starter ($49 a month) and Growth ($99 a month) add your brand on what you share, downloads, longer assessments and longer-kept interview videos. See pricing.
How these numbers were worked out
- Prices checked on 4 October 2026; displayed monthly equivalents use annual billing.
- Starter is excluded as an AI interview starting price because it does not include AI Recruiter[2].
- No enterprise quote, rollover rule or alternative billing rate is inferred.
- Flowmingo US$0 describes interview access, not an equivalent content-production contract.
The interview experience: an on-demand phone screen or a browser conversation
Both products collect a conversation before a recruiter reviews the applicant. Puck’s distinguishing format is its audio-first phone experience. Flowmingo’s AI interview runs in the browser. Compare the questions, follow-ups and evidence as well as the access channel[1].
How each runs the interview
Puck AI Recruiter
Candidate starts an on-demand phone screen; no camera is required[1]
Flowmingo
The interview room, from the product

The AI asks each question aloud and the applicant answers on camera. On screen: "If a customer says our product didn't work for them, how would you handle the situation?"
| What | Puck | |
|---|---|---|
| Role setup | Employer-defined questions and evaluation criteria[1] | 1-30 questions drafted from the job description; edit the questions and criteria before inviting |
| Conversation | Phone screening with targeted follow-ups[1] | The AI asks aloud and follows up; the applicant records video answers in their own time |
| Availability | Candidate can complete the screen on demand[1] | Candidate interviews independently within the invitation availability |
| Language support | More than 33 languages stated[1] | 60+ spoken interview languages; applicants choose from the languages you allow |
| Other assessments | Confirm assessments included in the proposed package | Multiple-choice and Technical Test assessments alongside interviews |
Use a question that requires an example, not a yes or no. Ask how the applicant handled a customer escalation, then inspect whether the follow-up uncovers their own actions and the result. A pleasant voice or a quick conversation is not enough to establish that the interview collected useful evidence. Use the same role requirements when comparing outputs.
Test the format with representative applicants and realistic conditions. Someone applying from a shared household may value an audio-first screen, while another hiring team may require replayable video evidence. Check the instructions, equipment and accessibility needs in the configured Flowmingo journey instead of assuming that a channel label predicts completion or candidate preference. Neither vendor’s general marketing results establish the outcome for your applicant pool.
What your applicants experience
Puck describes an SMS or email invitation leading into its phone-screen experience. Flowmingo also has more than one invitation route. Keep delivery, interview format and follow-up communications separate when evaluating reach[1].
Follow one invitation from receipt to a completed report. Check how the applicant identifies the employer, understands the purpose of the assessment and finds help. A message delivered successfully is only the beginning of that journey. Test the final link on the devices and networks your candidates actually use.
For Flowmingo, verify paid eligibility, WhatsApp enablement and credits with the organization before promising that route to candidates. For either product, explain recording and evaluation before the interview starts. If a candidate needs an alternative, decide who handles that request and how the team evaluates the resulting evidence consistently. That operational choice belongs in the hiring process, not in an unsupported claim that one format suits everyone.
| What | Puck | |
|---|---|---|
| Invitation | SMS or email[1] | Email; WhatsApp for enabled, eligible paid organizations with messaging credits |
| Candidate action | Open the invitation and start the phone screen[1] | Open the browser interview link |
| Camera | No camera required for the phone workflow[1] | Check the configured interview’s recording and device requirements |
| Scheduling | No recruiter appointment required[1] | No recruiter appointment for the AI interview |
| Brand experience | Talent-branding and career-site scope varies by package[2] | Plan-based branding and configurable career pages |

What comes back after each interview
Puck describes recordings, transcripts, grades and the reasoning behind its shortlist. Flowmingo returns criterion-level evaluation and recorded evidence. A score is useful when the recruiter can understand which answer supports it[1].
| What | Puck | |
|---|---|---|
| Conversation record | Recording and transcript[1] | Video recording and transcript, with the answer available alongside its evaluation |
| Evaluation | Candidate grades and score reasoning[1] | 0-10 per criterion with a written reason; overall score uses the importance you set |
| Recruiter output | Evaluated shortlist[1] | Scores, written reasons, strengths, gaps, recommendation and cohort percentile band |
| Final decision | Puck says recruiters decide who advances[1] | Recruiters review the evidence and decide who moves forward |
| Human interviews | Confirm the separate workflow if required | Interview Companion supports recruiter-led browser calls; confirm installation and availability for your team |

Overall scoreReview a borderline applicant, not only the strongest demonstration. Trace a low score back to the original answer and check whether the criterion was actually tested. Separate missing evidence from negative evidence: a conversation that never addressed a skill should not be treated as proof that the person lacks it.
Then ask two recruiters to interpret the same report independently. If they disagree, identify whether the issue is the question, the criterion or the explanation. Flowmingo’s human-interview tools can support later conversations as well, so the comparison should not assume its usefulness ends with an automated first round. Decide what evidence needs to move forward into the next interview.
Integrations and workflow
| What | Puck | |
|---|---|---|
| Hiring workspace | Lightweight ATS and Talent CRM in the recruiting platform[2,3,4] | Built-in hiring stages, applicant records, notes and team ratings on every plan |
| External ATS | ATS integration listed from Standard[2] | REST API, webhooks and MCP for custom integrations on every plan |
| Candidate relationships | Talent CRM for maintaining candidate pipelines[3] | Candidate records, hiring stages, notes and ratings |
| Brand services | Content and production scope varies by plan[2] | Plan-based software branding and career-page editing |
| Team access | Confirm users and permissions in the quoted package | Unlimited team members, with Owner, Admin and Member roles |
Choose the system that owns each stage. If Puck or an existing ATS holds your candidate database, test how an invitation is initiated and where the resulting evidence returns. Flowmingo provides custom API, webhook and MCP integration tools. Confirm the current availability of any named connection before relying on it.
A candidate may apply for two roles or return after an earlier application. Use those cases to check whether results attach to the correct application, whether reviewers have appropriate access and whether the current stage remains clear. A basic successful connection does not establish that every record-matching and permission case is correct.

Scoring, oversight and candidate data
Keep the evaluation understandable and the hiring decision with people
Puck describes consent and human decision-making. These are workflow statements, not evidence that every customer deployment automatically meets every legal or procurement requirement. Review the actual terms and configuration for both products[1].
A consistent question set does not, by itself, prove a bias-free outcome. Check the relevance of the criteria, the completeness of the evidence and the process for handling an inaccurate transcript or disputed assessment. Preserve a human review path and examine results from your own hiring process before relying on an automated recommendation.
| What | Puck | |
|---|---|---|
| Decision responsibility | Recruiters decide; vendor says no automatic rejections[1] | Recruiters review the evidence and decide who moves forward |
| Recording notice | Consent described for the candidate experience[1] | Review notices in the configured candidate journey |
| Certification evidence | Request current reports and their scope | Request current certification evidence. A published DPA is a data contract, not a certification |
| Data requirements | Confirm processing, retention, deletion and access terms | Published Data Processing Agreement and Privacy Policy; confirm retention and deletion requirements |
Which should you choose?
| If you are | Pick | Why |

| WhatsApp invitations matter | Flowmingo | Available for enabled, eligible paid organizations with messaging credits; confirm your setup. |
| You need a supplied employer-content production service | Puck | Evaluate the service scope in Puck’s relevant package[2]. |
| You already use Greenhouse | Either | Confirm connection availability and test the specific invitation and result handoff. |
| You want a free hiring tracker | Flowmingo | It is included with the Free interview workspace. |
| Candidate access conditions vary | Either | Pilot the actual phone or browser journey with representative applicants. |
| You need human-led interview evidence too | Either | Include Flowmingo Interview Companion in the review; confirm installation and availability. |
Moving from Puck: test one role first
Evaluate one role before moving a phone-screen workflow. Keep any required content services or candidate communications accounted for separately.
- Separate the jobs being doneList phone screening, AI interviewing, applicant tracking and employer-content production. Identify which parts the proposed change should cover.
- Reuse the evaluation criteriaConfigure the role in Flowmingo and compare a representative interview. Review a strong answer, a vague answer and an unanswered criterion.
- Test the candidate and ATS pathsOpen the real invitation channel, complete the interview and locate the report in the intended recruiter workflow.
- Check the monthly operating costUse actual interview demand and the applicable billing commitment. Separate software upgrades, messaging credits and continuing external services.
